MAAS Version: 3.6.1/stable (3.6.1-17573-g.bc3a12219)
Managed OS Version: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS “Noble Numbat”

Just curious, I received this notification on my first logon to the managed machine. Is this mandatory password prompt a new feature introduced in the latest MAAS release? Thanks

Do you have a screenshot?

Hi r00ta, here is the screenshot from the first SSH logon to the managed machine, followed by a prompt to change the password.

Do you actually configure the username/password with curtin or a cloud-init snippet on such machines? Is this a custom image?

It is an official Maas Ubuntu image. I didn’t configure Curtin for this.

are you logging in with username/password on the prompt/ssh or over ssh with a key?

I was logging with ubuntu + private key over SSH.

It must be something related to your env. Is it a brand new deployed machine?

It is a brand new deployed machine without any extra env variables configured.

You are right–I found a customised curtin located at /var/snap/maas/current/preseeds/curtin_userdata_ubuntu which was set up several months ago.
I had entered /snap/maas/current/ so I did not see my customised configs, which are actually located at /var/snap/maas/current/.
