packer-maas is useless. I downloaded Rocky’s GenericCloud image, created a custom image, and also created an Ubuntu local mirror for successful Commissioning in a closed network environment.
I deployed UEFI Rocky 8 to a client on the LAN.
packer-maas will never work if you just git clone it. Also, you should use apt to put MAAS in, not snap. And Ubuntu 24 can’t install curtin with apt, so you should use Ubuntu 22.
No matter how much I edit the packer template file and the kickstart file, it never builds.
I can’t decide if it’s a bug or if I’m not editing the right way, but I will create all distributions from cloud images when using MAAS in the future.
It is puzzling that Canonical does not offer such an alternative and there are so few articles about using cloud images to create and register custom images.
