Out of memory error on boot during GRUB

I get Boot error oom Out of memory.
This happens after I see

NBP file downloaded successfully
Fetching Netboot Image
Booting under MAAS direction…
error: out of memory

Press any key to continue

Looks like it’s related to

is there a workaround?
The server has got 8 GPUs and 5 NICs, other servers with less PCI devices are booting ok

Thank you very much for the report!

Have you tried booting from a usb stick and play around like Comment #40 : Bug #1842320 : Bugs : OEM Priority Project ?

MAAS seems to be just the tip of the iceberg in this issue

Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
The problem is, it’s impossible to modify initramfs.conf within MAAS.
Yes, if I use USB I can apply the workaround, but this is not the point.

I am trying to figure out how I can get it to work with MAAS

Could you elaborate how you envision this? How is the user supposed to configure it in MAAS?

I’m not a MAAS developer. I have found and reported a bug, based on the comments from you, it sounds like I should not bother.
Thanks for your input

I think the bug itself is valid and I really appreciated you took some time to report it! But this seems to be a problem of the images that MAAS uses, so it should be fixed there.
Also, initramfs.conf can be used during the build of the initramfs image, not at runtime.

If I may, I’d suggest to

  • remove MAAS from the picture for the time being
  • try using the grub version that contains the fix
  • if the issue is still present, open a bug on the related project

Does this make sense to you?

Hello,
It does make perfect sense.
Thank you for actually trying to help this time.
I was not 100% certain if the bug is related but it seems likely.
