Nvidia BlueField-3 support?

Hi everyone,

I noticed that Ubuntu MaaS supports OS provisioning for Nvidia BlueField-2, but not for BlueField-3. I’d like to understand why BlueField-3 is not supported—what are the key differences that prevent MaaS from provisioning OS on it?

Additionally, is there any plan to add support for BlueField-3 in the near future? If so, when can we expect it? Any updates on whether it will be available in the first half of this year would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Yes we are working on the support for BF3. It should land in 3.7

Hi @r00ta,

Thanks for the update! Just to clarify, when you say “3.7,” are you referring to MaaS version 3.7, or is it expected to land on March 7?

Also, I’d like to better understand why BlueField-2 is already supported while BlueField-3 is not. Could you shed some light on the technical differences that are preventing OS provisioning for BF3?

Looking forward to your insights!

Thanks again!

I mean MAAS 3.7.

BF3 does not work with the generic kernel that MAAS provides. It requires a special kernel.

Also, only some BF2 cards have a BMC and in MAAS there was no support for that. In 3.7 we aim to add support for the BMC of the cards as well
