Manual DHCP allocation

Greetings,

I am considering MAAS for my homelab. My main interest is learning the configuration and deployment of containers on the many Raspberry Pi clusters I have. In the past I have used manual DHCP allocations form all my server IP addresses so that I have a single place for IP address management vs having individual configuration file scattered across the servers. This way it makes it simpler to have MAC address -> IP addresses remain fixed and simplifies management if DNS also. My concern with MAAS is will this approach conflict with MAAS’s use of DHCP?

You can do manual DHCP allocations, but you have to make sure that your DHCP offers set the next-server address to the TFTP boot server – that’s how MAAS machines (e.g., your RPi clusters) will get the address of boot servers to request an NBP.
