MAAS versioning

Hey folks, is there any writeup or policy on the versioning of MAAS and estimated schedules on releases?

I have noticed a slight change in the amount of minor versions released in 2.7, 2.8, 2.9 channels compared to 3.0 and 3.1. Are minor versions scheduled/released only when necessary such as critical backports or is there some plan?

Should I expect general bugs for 3.0 to be fixed in 3.1 or 3.0.1?

Hi @szeestraten,

Currently MAAS follows the Ubuntu schedule, so you should expect the next version (3.2) close to the Jammy Jellyfish release date (Apr 2022).

Patch versions (x.y.1) are issued only for regressions and critical backports, and we work hard to avoid you ever seeing one of these. You should expect general bugs to be fixed in the next minor version.

Thank you @alexsander-souza. Would it perhaps be handy to have this documented in the docs? Apologies if this already exists, but I didn’t find it when searching.

Hi, yes it should be in our docs. I’ll add it to docs backlog.
