MAAS KVM host

Hi all,

What are the plans regarding Maas KVM host feature?

I noticed it says that only ubuntu 20.04 is supported, and recently 22.04 is also allowed to be used but the message has not been updated. It’s been almost a year since 24.04 lts and it still has not been added as allowed, neither for libvirt nor lxd option.

Is there a plan to support MAAS KVM into the future or do you foresee that it will be discontinued? It would be great to clear this up so we can adjust expectations and look for alternatives if that’s what is needed.

You’ve named the elephant in our room. We will change our KVM hosts to 22.04 soon, but the life of some of our systems will go well into 24.04 and beyond. If we need to switch to some other platform to support it, I would like to know ASAP.

You can use 24.04 as kvm host if you use the CLI. In the UI it will be possible to select it starting from 3.6.

There are no plans to drop KVM hosts in the near future.

thanks a lot! CLI sounds good, I am starting a test deploy right away.

@gregoryo2017 Fyi 22.04 KVM host worked for us just fine on MAAS 3.3 or 3.4, in case you haven’t tested it yet.

Now we upgraded MAAS to 3.5.3, will report how it went with CLI deploy of 24.04.

Great news, thank you both.

I wasn’t able to test deploy yet, due to hitting unrelated bug in cloud-init https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/2100963

Right now cloud-init fails for both 22.04/24.04 images.
