Cisco UCS permissions

Hi everyone!

I’m working on integrating MAAS with Cisco UCS and I have a question about the required permissions on UCS.

What permissions does the user configured in MAAS need to have in UCS Manager to ensure that MAAS can manage the servers (power on/off, inventory, etc.)? Additionally, is there anything specific I should configure for MAAS to efficiently use IPMI or Redfish with UCS?

If anyone has experience with this integration or any tips, I’d really appreciate it!

Hi there!

Thank you for your question.

MAAS should be able to work with UCS systems right away with no additional permissions required. With regards to interfacing with the systems using IPMI, it may be required to set the BMC K_g key in MAAS to allow it to communicate with and operate the BMC, but apart from that it should be fine.

I hope that helps answer your question.

There’s a UCS Manager power driver you could entertain.

Hi @pjonason, that’s the point. After re-reading the question, I realized I wasn’t clear in my wording.

When using the UCS Manager power driver, do you know what permissions are required at the UCS level?

I just knew you were going to ask that, and here I am without my UCS environment anymore. I would look for the role or permissions for power control (power-mgmt) certainly, and maybe Server Profile Administrator? It has to switch to PXE on next boot, which IIRC we did by switching out the NIC profile temporarily. So something that can muck with NIC profiles.
